The role:
Flinders Quartet is seeking a Pathways Producer for a newly created role at the heart of FQ Pathways, FQ's program for developing the next generation of chamber musicians and composers. Initially, the role is concentrated on the Flinders Fellowship Quartet Program - a new national initiative supporting emerging professional musicians - alongside FQ Sessions and FQ's network of mentee string quartets.
The Flinders Fellowship Quartet, and the Pathways Producer role that supports it, are both supported by The Ian Potter Foundation, giving this position a confirmed three-year term. It's a rare opportunity to help build a genuinely new model for chamber ensemble development in Australia, starting with a focus on the Fellowship Quartet and FQ's mentee string quartets and taking on more of FQ's Pathways program as the role and the person in it become established.
This is a role for someone who enjoys running things end to end comfortable moving between big-picture planning and the practical detail of scheduling, concert management, venue liaison and relationship management. In other words, someone equally at ease with big-picture thinking and small, practical details.
What the role covers:
Coordinate the Flinders Fellowship Quartet Program: scheduling, contracts, venue and presenter liaison
Plan and deliver FQ Sessions and mentee string quartet scheduling, including concert-level logistics and production coordination
Build relationships with training and presenting organisations across the sector
Support light-touch donor and philanthropic engagement connected to the Fellowship, growing over time
Contribute to grant reports and funding applications, working alongside FQ's leadership team
Capture content (photos, video, social media material) from program activity to support FQ's marketing and funder reporting
Term, hours and location:
Term: Part-time, fixed-term (3 years), aligned to Ian Potter Foundation funding for the Flinders Fellowship Quartet Program
Hours: 0.5 FTE (approximately 19 hours per week); working days flexible and open to discussion
Location: Melbourne-based. Predominantly work-from-home; FQ has no physical office (in-person sessions are held at FQ's rehearsal space or another mutually agreeable location). Regular in-person time is expected, increasing through 2027 and beyond as the program builds momentum
Remuneration: Competitive, commensurate with experience; superannuation paid in addition
Start date: 4 January 2027
Key selection criteria:

1. Demonstrated experience producing or coordinating performing arts programs, ideally in music or chamber music
2. Experience managing live concerts or events, including artist logistics, venues and production/front-of-house coordination
3. Strong organisational and scheduling skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent programs and stakeholders
4. Excellent relationship-management skills, with confidence liaising with musicians, venues, presenters and partner organisations
5. High-level written communication skills, including for documentation, reporting and partner correspondence
6. Understanding of or genuine interest in the Australian chamber music and/or classical music sector
7. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a small, part-time team
8. Experience contributing to grant writing and funding reports - whether as lead author or as part of a collaborative process with colleagues
Desirable
Experience working with early-career or emerging artists
Experience with sector partnership or education program development
Existing relationships within the Australian music training and presenting sector
Flexibility to work across locations, given some regional and interstate activity
Experience with, or interest in developing, donor and philanthropic engagement
Experience with program evaluation and reporting
Experience with marketing or content creation (photo/video/social) for digital channels
